About Us

Welcome to Haneen Organization, a vibrant community hub established in 2020 under the Canada Not-for-profit Act, dedicated to supporting Arab newcomers, including refugees and immigrants, in the Toronto area. Our mission is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that aids the smooth transition of newcomers into Canadian society. We are committed to empowering individuals and families through a comprehensive array of programs focused on social integration, educational advancement, and professional development.

At Haneen Organization, we recognize the unique challenges faced by newcomer families, children, young people and women. In partnership with various organizations and educational institutions across Canada, we tailor our programs to address these challenges, using art as a transformative tool to foster a safe and welcoming space for expression and growth.

One of our key initiatives is the Singing Our Stories project, which specifically targets newcomer and refugee children and youth from diverse backgrounds. This program includes weekly workshops that use music and storytelling as mediums to help participants process their experiences, enhance their communication skills, and foster a sense of belonging within the Canadian cultural landscape.

Additionally, we run a robust social programs that engage whole families in art, social activities, and music. This family-oriented approach not only strengthens community bonds but also supports the cultural exchange and emotional well-being of participants, enhancing the integration process for all family members.

A pivotal component of our initiative is the Haneen Women Choir, founded in 2018 by Rahaf Alakbani. Born from Rahaf's vision to revive and preserve Arab heritage and empower women, the choir harnesses the power of music to unite and uplift its members. The choir provides a supportive environment where Arab women in Canada can connect over shared musical passions, enhancing their integration into Canadian society through cultural exchange and the strengthening of social bonds.!
